Understanding the Committee Structure

In Allegheny County, there are 162 local Democratic committees across the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding municipalities. In total, there are approximately 2,600 local committee positions, though not all are currently filled.

What is a Precinct?

Committee members are elected to represent a specific precinct. A precinct is simply the area assigned to a single polling place.

Who Represents a Precinct?

Each precinct has two available seats: one for a male representative and one for a female representative. 

Find Your Local Committee

The easiest way to find your local committee is to check your voter registration. Go to the PA Department of State website and pull up your voter registration. Under “Voter Districts” (3rd heading), it lists your precinct: e.g., PITTSBURGH 8 5. This means that you are in Pittsburgh Ward 8, District 5.

This table shows the list of positions, by precinct, with the names of those serving, open positions, and leaders. It’ll be updated shortly, with results from the May 19 election. 

(A note of explanation: In the list, it might look like there are more than two members representing a District (precinct). But, that’s not the case. Committee officers can be on committee without representing a District. The list shows the District they live in, but they’re not elected to represent that District — they serve the committee as a whole.)
